Local Councillor Opportunities

Have your say as our community develops!

You could be directly involved in shaping how our area (Chelmsford Garden Community) grows over the coming years. We need 13 local residents to put themselves forward for a new local Council.

Currently, Beaulieu is under Springfield Parish Council, and the Channels area is split between Broomfield and Little Waltham. Following a Community Governance Review, this will all come together under Chelmsford Garden Community Council on 1st April 2023.

The Garden Community will be a shared place. A place where people can experience and explore nature and wildlife. It will be a 21st Century, environmentally conscious community, where nearly everything we need is just 15 minutes away. It will be a place with a distinct identity, where unexpected joy and wonder can be found in the twists and turns of a new place.

This is a unique opportunity to become one of the first councillors on the newly established Community Council from May 2023, when elections take place.

Local councillors are the champions of their community who invest time in local projects and issues to the benefit of residents and the neighbourhood. Councillors attend to local needs of residents, local groups and businesses, make decisions on local services, collaborate with the City and County Councils to identify local needs, and progress vital projects to invest in the future of the community.

As a Councillor representing your community, you will help to keep it a great place to live and work. Councillors can and should be very different in their skills base, experience and work status, all of which contribute to a good and balanced representation of the area. The ability to take the initiative, be creative and have time to give to the role are all very important aspects of being a good Councillor.
