Channels Mammoth has arrived at Channels Park!

A couple of weeks ago we shared pictures of the Channels Mammoth being lifted into position and we’re pleased to report that this new Chelmsford landmark is now finished!
Local stones have been included within the mammoth’s body and landscaping around the sculpture has been added to create the effect of this magnificent creature rising from the ground.
Yesterday, 17th September 2024, the Mayor of Chelmsford presented a plaque to Hugo Kirby from the Channels Community Stewardship CIC to complete the handover of the district’s newest public artwork.
Our Councillors Derek Drew Smith, Mlanie Williamson and Andrew Wright were there to witness the arrival!
Thank you to everyone who has played a part in bringing this project to life (especially artist Michael Condron)!
Don’t forget to look out for this celebration of Channels’ prehistory the next time you’re in the area 🦣
