Thursday 6 June, Chelmsford Garden Community Council, Chelmsford City Council and the Mayor of Chelmsford will be marking D-Day 80 with a free community event which will take place at Channels Park, culminating in the lighting of the Channels beacon.

The running order for the event which starts at 7pm is as follows:
7pm – arrivals accompanied by music from the Strayhorn Brass Quintet who will be playing at intervals during the evening.
7.15pm – music from the New Hall School Choir
7.30pm – readings from the winners of the D Day poetry competition
7.50pm – music from the New Hall School Choir
8pm – Marching display from the Army, Sea and Air Cadets
8.30pm – speeches and readings from Dignitaries
9.05pm – the Bugler will play the Last Post and Reveille which will include a one minute silence
9.15pm – reading of the International Tribute and the lighting of the beacon
9.30pm – 10pm event closes.
Refreshments will also be available and fish and chips will be available for £12.50 from Flitch and Chips’ food van. My Little Drinks Van will be providing tea, coffee, cake and both soft and alcoholic drinks. Both vendors take card and cash payments if you’re buying food and drink at the event.
Our chosen charity for the evening is the Royal British Legion and they will be collecting during the evening if you’d like to make a donation.
The event will take place in Channels Park, however as space is limited in this area and to ensure a safe event, free tickets must be booked in advance. Please note that parking for this event is not at the Channels Park car park off Albatross Way but that Parking is kindly provided by the Falcon Bowling Club, Channels Drive, Broomfield, CM3 3BF. Stewards will be on hand to guide you if you need help and to direct you to the site. Please take care if you are crossing the road to the entrance to Channels Park (CM3 3FX).
