Essex County Council – pavement and highway repairs policy

As a result of residents’ questions, Chelmsford Garden Community Council contacted Essex County Council in relation to the repair of some potholes and defects to pavements being repaired with tarmac.

The response from Essex Highways can be seen below –

I have snipped the relevant section below from the highway matrix document, which explains our highway maintenance priorities, and that footway slabs will only be replaced on prestige footways.  Other footway types will be reinstated with bitumen.

This area is not considered to be a prestige footway and therefore in accordance with the Maintenance Strategy we reinstated with a bitumen/tarmacadam surface.  The same goes for the carriageway stones.
